Thanks for keeping me up to date with your regular newsletters, they always make interesting reading and usually contain at least one way for me to spend money I don't have! This months being the race caterham, I will be keeping an eye on this one.
I want to give massive congratulations to Colin for his appointment to Evo, I have read this magazine since issue 5 and have not missed even one since then (I even had a letter published a few years ago), I've met most of the staff in one way or another and It is one of my motoring "bibles" so for me there are few accolades higher than being asked to give your opinions for publication, well done, a true marker of your stature as a company within the industry.

After many months of behind the scenes development, we are very pleased to have our new site live. There are many new features, links are given on the right. We think it's great - but we would say that wouldn't we! Hopefully you'll agree. Any comments you have, good or bad, please let Jo know. Big thanks to Chris and his team at Mind Tattoo's for all their hard work and patience!

I’m tuning my rear-wheeldrive car and doubling its torque, so I am looking to fit wider rear tyres (up from 195s to 225s) to help handle it. Is there an easy formula to work out what effect this will have on grip levels during cornering and under acceleration? – Michael Ferdinand evo logo

There are many complex variables to consider when increasing tyre size, so unfortunately it’s not possible to calculate the improvement with a simple formula.

What a great event. Give a competitive driver a race car and he or she will invariably want to adjust its dynamic characteristics to suit their driving style. On this occasion that option was not on the table. The JR Motorsport Evo X became a benchmark for the day - no adjustments - just get in and do your best.

Chell asked me to interview each driver after their first run. A great opportunity to gauge reaction and gain feedback from drivers on the challenges of extracting a quick lap from a damp and cold circuit. Each driver approached the task professionally, chasing braking points and building speed over each run. The comments mirrored performance.

Millbrook training days promote safe driving techniques for road and circuit. This year CAT travelled north of the border for an MLR training day at the Ingliston Showground. The training took place the day before the Ingliston round of the Sprint series. Many of the questions on the day regarding technique were track focused and included questions on skid recovery. This article reflects on one of the days questions.

In the last edition CAT’s Driving Clinic focused on observation - maintaining a long focal point when driving on circuit or the public highway is essential. We finished the article discussing the importance of “looking where you want to go” when recovering from an oversteer/understeer scenario. Let’s now polarise our thoughts on the subtle adjustment needed to the gas pedal to recover the situation.
